Sophia Academy exists to lead students into true wisdom through robust academics and virtue formation. Our philosophy of education is informed by the classical approach and rooted in the Orthodox Christian Tradition.

This endeavor involves the whole person–mind, heart, body, soul–and the whole community–parents, friends, the Church. It involves spiritual contemplation of the Holy Trinity, and a joyful examination of the created world. This approach does not merely train students to be intelligent, but leads them to true wisdom, which is perfectly fulfilled and embodied by the person of Jesus Christ.

As Orthodox Nobel Prize winner Alexander Solzhenityzn said:

If humanism were right in declaring that man is born only to be happy, he would not be born to die. Since his body is doomed to die, his task on earth evidently must be of a more spiritual nature…so that one’s life journey may become an experience of moral growth, so that one may leave life a better human being than one started it…(Harvard University Commencement Speech, June 8, 1978)

Sophia Academy educates with the end in mind and seeks to provide a learning environment where this transformation can happen.

Mission

Vision

Our ultimate aim is that our students will, through God’s grace:

  1. Grow into true wisdom, not merely possess academic knowledge;

  2. Become virtuous young men and women who love to learn, not merely seek to “get through” school; and

  3. Find true joy in studying the wonders of God’s creation.
